Dr Mark Franks
Senior Clinical Psychologist
Originally from the UK, I emigrated to New Zealand in 2012, and then to Australia in 2015. In 2021 I became an Australian Citizen. My qualifications are as follows:

-
Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy)
-
First Class BSc Hons Psychology with Sports Sciences
-
Postgrad Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy
My Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the UK ranks amongst the best psychology training programmes in the world. Here I undertook clinical training in the National Health Service (NHS), the UK's public health system. I also completed specialised training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy under the supervision of world renowned Psychologists. As a result, I am one of the most qualified and experienced Clinical Psychologists in Australia.
With over twenty years clinical experience across three countries, I am highly specialised in treating a range of mental health problems including PTSD, psychosis, bipolar disorder, depression and anxiety disorders such as panic, GAD, OCD, social anxiety. I have worked in the the public sector, private sector, and for NGO's.
ln January 2020, I moved to the NSW Far South Coast to work with people impacted by the Black Summer Bushfires, the worst natural disaster in Australian history. I provided psychological support to impacted communities, as well as establishing a very successful bulk billing private practice that provided specialised treatment for bushfire related Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). I continued my therapy work and community support throughout the pandemic, achieving outstanding clinical outcomes. I presented my work at the Australian Disaster Resilience Conference (click here). I am currently based in rural Far North Queensland, but work via Telehealth.
I also spent three years working with the Pacific Island peoples of Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand. Here, I worked with Samoans, Tongans, Niueans, and Cook Islanders experiencing severe psychological problems.
I have presented my clinical work at national and international conferences (click here), as well as publishing research in peer-reviewed scientific journals (click here).

In therapy, I draw upon a persons strengths and resilience as we work together as a team. Motivating, inspiring and getting the best out of people is central to my approach. Clients often say that I am down to earth and easy to talk to, which I attribute to my working class upbringing in the North of England. I feel that this underpins the great success that I have had in my therapy work over the years.

Away from work my biggest passion is travelling. I have visited over 80 countries across five continents, with a lifetime goal of reaching 100. I have done volunteer work at The Mother Teresa Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, India, and at The Save Blessing Children's Home in Kathmandu, Nepal, an amazing organisation that is still very close to my heart.
